The CII Institute of Quality is pleased to announce a two day Certificate Course on “Psychometrics for HR and OD” on 19-20 August 2009, at Chennai.
Context
Understanding the psychological make up of human beings has been of great interest for a long time. This understanding in the context of organizational employees is important not because it is ‘good to know’; it is actually crucial for taking a variety of employee-related decisions. In fact, there exists a strong belief that it is better to have an employee who lesser skilled and more positively oriented than one who is an expert with poor attitude.
How does one understand the psychological characteristics of employees? Psychometrics – the field of study that is concerned with the measurement of psychological variables – helps us to understand psychological characteristics in a scientific manner.
Principles of psychometrics are also relevant to measurement involved in Organisation Development interventions.
Objective
The course will focus on inputs and discussions that will enable the participants to use psychometric instruments in the fields of HR an OD.

The participants will also be exposed to Assessment / Development Centers and to measuring organization level variables like organizational climate.
Learning
As a part of the course, participants will answer two instruments. Through this, they will not only learn about some of their own psychological characteristics, but also learn the contents of the course with first hand experience.
Participants will get hand-on experience of many of the principles of psychometrics.
The book “Training Instruments in HRD and OD” by Dr Udai Pareek will be a part of the course material.

Faculty
Prof. C Balaji, currently heads the Symphony University, the corporate university of Symphony Services Pvt. Ltd. After 17 years of teaching, research and consulting in various aspects of HR, OB and OD, he has been with the software industry for over six years. He is a Fellow – IIMA. He has been the Editor of the HRD Newsletter, which is the monthly periodical of the National HRD Network. He has developed instruments, designed and conducted several sessions on topics related to psychometrics, and guided instruments development. The instrument he developed to measure Organizational Commitment has been used in several studies.
