Subject: GMA Annual Awards
– Manager of the year’08
– Young Manager of the year’08

With the patronage of its Member Organizations, GMA has been endeavoring to
promote excellence in Business Performance and Practices in the Member Organizations.
To further this objective, GMA has instituted above two annual awards to be given to one recipient, in each of the two categories, selected by a Panel of Assessors (PoA),
appointed by GMA, by following a process of assessment based on pre-defined criteria
and metrics. The Awardees are chosen from among the eligible nominees recommended
by any Organization located in the State of Goa.

As the industrial and business units already know that, to have a sustainable competitive edge, in the demandingly competitive environment, it is necessary to benchmark business performance and practices to the best in the class or to other appropriate standards.

The objective of sustainability lays increasing emphasis on the need to weave Business Goals with the fabric of Socio-Economic Development of Communities and protection of Eco-system that the Business impacts directly or indirectly.
We invite, for the above two awards, nominations from your Organization. Nominees
recommended by you must have a track-record (of at least 3 years) of high performance
(measured by the Employer’s internal system of performance evaluation); appropriate
for the nominees areas of responsibilities. The other criteria of nominee eligibility are:

For GMA Manager of the Year’08:
– He/she must be at least a Head of a Business Function of the Organization and shall be of more than 40 years of age as of 30 June 2008 .
– He/she must have a role
– In shaping/influencing the strategic vision and strategic goals of the organization or
– In executing the Strategic Plan (as relevant to his/her area of
operations) to achieve the Organization’s strategic goals.

For GMA Young Manager of the year’08:
– He/she must have at least 5 years of working experience in any of the operational areas of a Business and shall be in the age group 25 to less than 40 years as on 30 June 08

Nominations must be accompanied by data/information (as per Annexure-2), which are
required for the nominee’s preliminary assessment for short-listing. Short-listed nominees will be subject to further assessment based on their presentations to and interactions with PoA. Criteria and metrics for assessment shall be as described in the Annexure-1 to this Request for Nominations (RFN).

GMA executive committee member(s) will welcome an opportunity to meet you to
listen to your valuable suggestions for improving/expanding GMA’s role in promoting
excellence in Business Performance and Practices, to add value to your Organization’s
objectives.

Last date for nominations to reach GMA office is 10th JULY 2008.

Annexure-1
# Assessment of Performance of Business Objectives ( Category-I)
– Nominee’s performance( as brought out in the submissions accompanying his/her nomination and subsequently elaborated upon in his/her presentation before the PoA ) will be assessed for:
1. Fit/alignment of performance goals with his/her Organization’s strategic goals.
2. Benchmarks (internal and/or external) to which key performance objectives (three or four) are tied.
3. Actual performance vis-à-vis the performance objectives.
– Recognition /rewards received from his/her Organization.
4. His/her analysis of factors which:
– Facilitated his/her performance
– Inhibited his/her performance

# Assessment of Contribution to socio-economic development and protection of eco-system(Category-II)
1. His/her tangible contribution towards socio-economic development of the community
– Recognition/awards conferred by or grants received from recognized odies/Institutions.
2. His/her tangible contribution towards abatement of degradation and/or improvement of the environment.
– Recognition/awards conferred by or grants received from recognized dies/ Institutions.

# Assessment of Capabilities and Potential(Category-III)
– Nominee will be assessed for:
– His/her understanding of:
1. The Business Model and Business Strategy of his/her Organization.
2. The Business Environment in which his/her Organization’s operates and major issues/challenges before it.
3. The drivers of the growth of his/her Organization’s business.
4. Risks to which the Business Model is susceptible.
– 5. His/her ideas and recommended action plan to de-risk the Business Model or mitigate risks it is susceptible to.
– 6. His/her ideas and recommended action plan to meet the challenges before his Organization.
– 7. His/her ability to articulate his/her understanding, ideas and action plan with clarity.
– His/her
8. Leadership,
9. Entrepreneurship and
10. Execution capability and potential.

# Metrics:
– Nominee will be rated for each of the criteria on a scale of 1 to 9, 9 being the highest score.
– Nominee’s score in each of the categories I, II& III will be the arithmetic average of the ratings for the criteria in that category.

– Nominee’s overall score will be the weighted sum of the scores in the three categories; weight assigned being 45% for category I, 15% for category-II and 40% for category III.

# Process of Assessment
– Preliminary Stage:
– Preliminary assessment of Nominees by PoA will based on brief but sufficient information/data submitted by Nominees (along with their nominations) addressing the criteria (categories I to III). Not more than 5 nominees (for each of the two awards) will be shortlisted for pre- final assessment by PoA.
– Pre-final stage:
– Short-listed Nominees ( who will be adequately notified by GMA)will be required :
o To make a crisp and to the point “power-point”
presentation to PoA addressing PoA’s agenda. Duration
of presentation + interaction with PoA: about one hour.
o To participate, (if notified by PoA), in a Group Discussion
(not exceeding 45 minutes) on a topic (to be decided by
PoA).
o Two nominees (for each of the two awards) with relative
score not less than 7 will be short-listed for final
assessment.
– Final stage:
– This will involve fine-tuning of the ratings of the “finalists” based
on interviews (of PoA) with the “finalists” Immediate Superior and
Next Superior.
– PoA will then submit its recommendations to the Chairman GMA
for endorsement, where-after the Chairman GMA will announce the
names of the awardees.

*Brief information about the Organization
– Brochure
– Latest published Annual Report
*Brief Bio-data of the Nominee
*A concise Organization Chart, showing the key positions in the Organization and
the position of the Nominee therein.
*Relevant information to practicably address all the criteria of assessment (refer
Annexure-1)
*Any other data/information that the Organization and/or the Nominee might like to
share with the PoA.
