Usage of cyanide should be banned in zinc and copper plating – CENTRAL POLLUTION CONTROL BOARD.

Electroplating units are informed that, The Central Pollution Control Board has constituted an Expert Committee who has deliberated that “usage of cyanide should be banned in zinc and copper plating with a time frame of 3 years throughout the Country” as non-cyanide copper and zinc plating electrolyte solutions/baths are available and is being practiced by most of the electroplaters with same quality of the plating as produced by the cyanide based copper and zinc plating.

The units concerned / suppliers etc. are requested to kindly take note and furnish their comments on the decision on or before 19th April, 2008 to this Association or directly to the Central Pollution Control Board, Ministry of Environment & Forests, Govt. of India directly under intimation to this office as the same will be placed before the Expert Committee which is proposed to be held in April-May 2008.
