“Doubling the Credit to MSMEs” – Interactive Session with the Senior Officials of
Reserve Bank of India
1400 hrs : 10th July 2008 :Hotel Taj Mahal Palace & Tower, Apollo Bunder, Colaba, Mumbai.

MSMEs in India constitute more than 80% of total number of industrial enterprises and form the backbone of industrial development in India by it’s remarkable contribution to the Indian economy. However, the availability of timely, adequate & low cost credit is limiting the ability of Indian MSMEs in accessing the new technologies, upgrading the manufacturing facilities, expansion and enhancing of newer markets and maintaining the competitiveness.

While announcing the Policy Package for Stepping up Credit to the SMEs, the Finance Minister, Mr P Chidambaram in the Parliament on August 10th, 2005, had mentioned the objective to double the flow of credit from Rs.67,600 crore in 2004-05 to Rs.135,200 crore to the SME sector by 2009-10, i.e. within a period of 5 years.

It is with this background and more than half way through the five year period, CII proposes to organize an Interactive Session with the senior officials of Reserve Bank of India at 1400 hrs on 10th July 2008 at Hotel Taj Mahal Palace & Tower, Apollo Bunder, Colaba, Mumbai. The discussions at the interaction would review and revolve around the Doubling the Credit to MSMEs. Mr Dinesh Rai, Secretary (MSME), Ministry of MSME, Government of India has also been invited for the interaction.

I am writing to request your participation at the interaction and take the opportunity to highlight the key issues being faced by your organization with the officials of RBI. Please confirm your presence through the reply form attached. Along with the Reply Form, you are also requested to send your issues/ representation on Credit Availability, which you may like to be included in the CII representation for RBI.
