Marketing to the Bottom of the Pyramid

Marketing to the Bottom of the Pyramid
How relevant and in what measure achievable in the Indian context
August 19-20, 2008 * New Delhi

I am writing to invite you to the Ninth Edition of the Marketing Summit. As you may be aware, each year the CII Marketing Summit has been successfully bringing together an extremely senior audience and authoritative speakers to discuss and argue inspiring and relevant issues associated with the Indian marketing scenario. Through this Summit, we have been providing analysis and in-depth insights into the continuously transforming world of marketing in India. Participants have found greater value from the sharing of experiences with like-minded peers. Equally, the senior level of participation has brought in the added advantage of the possibility of problem-sharing and problem solving – learning from other’s experiences.

Our next edition of the Marketing Summit is a one-and-a-half day initiative titled – Marketing to the Bottom of the Pyramid – How relevant and in what measure achievable in the Indian context?, which is scheduled to be held on August 19 –20, 2008, at Hotel Taj Palace in New Delhi.

This year’s edition takes place at a major turning point. On the one hand, India offers an unparalleled market opportunity, made all the more attractive by the changing nature of its consumer – which is evolving in taste, coming out of his risk-averse shell, looks for new avenues to engage his expanding consuming propensities. On the other, the launch of the Nano represents an undeniable inflection point, which has challenged the market, breaking chords across price scalability, aspirations and resource efficiency. More importantly, it could be the catalysing factor to draw-in new waves of consumers hitherto inaccessible and unapproached in the Indian market. What combinations will work in the changing market-place?
In a format conducive to candid discussion, the 9th Marketing Summit will probe issues most critical to the Indian market and the marketers:

· Chasing the mirage, the great Indian marketplace: the promise and the potential
This session offers insights into the size of the market. Is it for real or are some of your efforts invested in chasing a mirage? Identify the real market and build commensurate strategy.

· Tuning the company: from myths to reality
The multi-layered market is mature. Is your orgnisation’s top management oriented to the changing market dynamics? What role can CMOs play in shaping future strategy? This session will focus on leadership and mind over matter issues to seamlessly integrate your company to your goals

· Nurturing the pyramid to market expectations: To what extent and how?
If the present consumer is brand conscious and has the capacity to buy, what is restraining the consumption basket? Is it a function of microfinance? Will this redeem the market and the marketeer?

· Building a marketable product – the power of the advertisers

· Mapping to succeed: leveraging technology to advantage

Engage with the experts of GIS to know more on how you can access this technology to both track your customer and unlock the veritable Indian goldmine with increasing precision.

· Scaling the market-size: the sachet to Nano experience. And what next?
HLL’s sachet strategy once showed the way to break into this market and now the Tata’s Nano. And are you ready to change, again?
