“Infranet 08” – A Blueprint for Building North

“Infranet 08” – A Blueprint for Building North
Wednesday, 13 February 2008 : Kamal Mahal, Maurya Sheraton, New Delhi

India’s Eleventh Plan has set a nationwide target of USD 575 billion as the spending need for infrastructure. A sizeable portion of that will be needed by the states of North India, where infrastructure has to improve quickly to make it easier for businesses to operate and for people to live and work.

Across all the sectors of infrastructure and across all constituencies, “infrastructure” is the one-word mantra to faster growth.

As you may be aware, CII has been focusing on various issues pertaining to infrastructure over the years through its flagship event ‘Infranet’. This year with its focus on Infrastructure across the Northern Region, CII Infrastructure and Urban Development Sub–Committee in association with Feedback Ventures as the Knowledge Partner is organising a one-day Conference – Infranet 08 scheduled for Wednesday, 13 February 08 from 1000 hrs (Registration : 0915 hrs) to 1800 hrs at the Kamal Mahal, Maurya Sheraton, Sardar Patel Marg, New Delhi.

The problems in infrastructure are well known. What is not so well-known is replicable solutions from government agencies and private providers that have worked in another part of the country.

The objective of the conference is to find sustainable solutions and answers that facilitate coordinated investment by both the private and government sectors. Sector-by-sector, the sessions will explore what has worked, and how to replicate it. The event would focus on some critical issues like energy, urban development, and transport.

I am writing to you to take advantage of this unique Conference. A brief program overview is attached for your ready reference. You are requested to confirm your company’s participation through the enclosed Reply form.

Kind regards,

Yours sincerely,
Gopal Sarma
Conference Chairman

Workshop on “Import Export Documentation – Best Practices”

Workshop on “Import Export Documentation – Best Practices”
15-16 February 2008: CMA Tower, Auditorium, A-2E, Sector-24, NOIDA

Confederation of Indian Industry is pleased to announce a Two Days Workshop on Import Export Documentation – Best Practices on 15 – 16 February 2008 at CMA Auditorium, Noida.

Imports and Exports involve heavy documentation. The banks deal in documentation and not goods. The licensing authorities grant licenses or disburse incentives on the basis of documents. The customs allow clearances on the basis of documents. The buyers or sellers abroad need precise documents or need precise instructions regarding documents. Indeed, most performances have to be documented accurately.

The trouble with documentation is that quite often, what is done cannot be undone. For example, amending a customs document after clearance is next to impossible. It is difficult to retrieve documents transmitted to banks or buyers or sellers. So, there is every need to do it right the first time.

Talk by – Mr Walter Vieira on 30 jan 2008 (wednesday) at hotel mandovi, Panaji .

Talk by – Mr Walter Vieira on 30 jan 2008 (wednesday) at hotel mandovi, Panaji at 5-30 to 7.30pm

You will be glad to know that Goa Management Association (GMA), Porvorim, Goa has organized a Talk on the topic “Entrepreneurship – the need for Goa” by Mr Walter Vieira. He has long and varied experience of more than 32 years in the practice of management consultancy and presently based in Mumbai. He is the Founder President of Marketing Advisory Services Group ( MAS Group), Mumbai since 1975.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Walter Vieira has been described by Philip Kotler (the world’s guru on ‘Marketing’) as one of ‘the best speakers on Marketing in Asia, and perhaps world wide.’

Walter is a Certified Management Consultant and a Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants of India. He has been in the practice of management consultancy since 1975 (32 years) when he set up the first marketing consultancy company in India. He was awarded the Life time Achievement Award in 2005.

He earlier worked in senior positions in Glaxo, Warner Lambert & Boots for 14 years, when he left as Marketing head for India – and concurrently General Manager for Boots, Sri Lanka and Bangla Desh. He was responsible for some of the most successful launches in the pharmaceutical industry.

Walter has been consultant in marketing and training to many of the largest corporations in India – A V Birla Group (textiles, cement, aluminium); Tatas (IT, cosmetics, consumer, chemicals; Mafatlal (textiles); Levers; BASF; Bayer; Hoechst; Philips et al and organizations in USA, Middle East; Africa, South East Asia. He has covered a broad canvas from Industrial products to FMCG.

Walter is the only speaker to be invited to address three consecutive World Congress of Management Consultants in Rome, Yokohama and Berlin.

Walter has the distinction of writing the longest running column ‘Executive Career Path’ for Business World (India). He has published over 700 articles in the Business & General Press. He has written 11 books – some of them best sellers – translated into Chinese and Indonesian and 3 books in collaboration with Prof. C. Northcote Parkinson of Parkinson’s Law fame.

He has been active in social marketing – and has been ‘probono’ consultant to Cancer Aid Society; World Wildlife Fund for Nature; Consumer Education & Research Centre; The Workshop for Mentally Challenged Women – among others.

He has been the President of the Institute of Management Consultants of India (1986-1991); the Founder/Chairman of Asia Pacific Conference of Management Consultants; and the first Asian to be elected Chairman of the 42-country world apex body of management consultants (ICMCI) International Council of Management Consulting Institutes. He is a special invited Director on the Board of the Institute of Management Consultants of Thailand.

Walter has been Visiting Professor since 1989 at the Kellogg Business School, N W University, USA; and has lectured at Cornell; Drexel; Brady; NYU; URI; Lake Forest – in USA; Boston College, Zaragoza, Spain and many other business schools in Asia.

Walter has stradled the space between business and academia – and shares his vast experience with students and peers, to help make this a better world!

The topic : “Entrepreneurship – the need for Goa” has in the background the concept enumerated in his book : Entrepreneur – I believe, you can move mountains.

ABOUT the Book “Entrepreneur – I believe you can move mountains”
In India and even world wide, companies are expanding, but trying to do this with less people. Government, which used to be the biggest employer – is downsizing. There is greater use of technology; to reduce the number of employees.

Where will the millions of young men and women, who join the work force every year, go? If they do not find gainful employment, there will be social tensions and unhappiness all round.

‘I believe, you can move mountains’ is a book by Mr Walter Vieira to motivate young people – with or without skills; with or without capital. It is for those who have a spark of entrepreneurship, which can be fanned into a flame. A flame that can spread into a raging fire, throughout the nation. ‘I believe’ is not a ‘how to’ book. It is a ‘why should I’ book. It will motivate to start your own enterprise – to provide a job for yourself, and hopefully, also for some or many others.

‘I believe’ gives many examples. Stories of young men and women in India, Singapore, Thailand – who have struck out on their own – successfully. It shows ‘what man has done, man can do’. ‘I believe’ is written in Walter Vieira’s inimitable style. Simple language, short paragraphs; a sense of humour – the consummate raconteur. The hallmark of his 10 earlier books. ‘I believe’ is a ‘must read’ for all young men and women who are graduating from vocational training institutes (alas, too few); from colleges; from IITs and IIMs. ‘I believe’ is an excellent gift to your children and to your friends’ children – so that many candles can be lighted to create fulfilled individuals; contented communities and in turn, a prosperous nation.

The programme schedule is as follows:
17.00 to 17.30 – Fellowship over tea/coffee
17.30 to 17.40 – Introductory session
17.40 to 19.10/19.20 -Talk by Mr.Walter Vieira – Includes 15-20 minutes Q & A

Creating Attractive Services: A Strategic Approach

Creating Attractive Services: A Strategic Approach
27 – 28 February 2008: Bangalore

Increasing globalization and competition have brought the Service sector to the foreground as a main growth engine in modern economies. In order to gain and maintain competitive edge in the marketplace, service organizations, be it Media, Healthcare, Education, Hospitality, Financial Services, Travel & Tourism or Logistic Solutions providers are continually focusing on innovative and creative ways to acquire, satisfy and retain customers. The challenge for today’s service organizations is to align business objectives with the development of new and value added services. The crux of the issue lies in identifying new service strategies that foster innovation. While service organizations are developing and delivering new services addressing the customer and market requirements, there is a need for looking at how scientific and systematic are the processes behind these, in order to enhance the competitiveness of the organizations. To address this issue, the CII Institute of Quality is organizing a two day Workshop on “Creating Attractive Services: A Strategic Approach” on 27-28 February 2008 at Bangalore.

The workshop aims to bring forward the integration of all aspects of the Service Development process, addressing the relationship between innovation, market dynamics and customer satisfaction. This programme covers market entry and positioning strategies and planning processes including relevant techniques like QFD, FMEA etc. The course revolves around the Theory of Attractive Quality, developed by Dr. Noriaki Kano, the world-renowned pioneer in product and service innovation. By applying this approach, the must-haves, exciters, and true differentiators become readily apparent and service development efforts can then focus on the attributes that customers will not only be attracted to but are also likely to pay a premium for.

The Workshop Objectives:

The Workshop will enable participants towards:

1. Designing and developing new services, in line with the needs and expectations of the customers,

2. Identifying the improvements aimed at enhancing existing services to address the changing needs and expectations of the customers,

3. Introducing a structured approach to support the development of new services, using scientific tools & techniques relevant to a service scenario, and

4. Using creativity and innovation to create an attractive service.

The workshop shall be conducted using lectures, group-work and case studies.

This programme is targeted for senior and middle level management from different disciplines such as Business Planning, Marketing, and Services Delivery etc.

I am writing to invite you to take advantage of this programme and nominate colleagues from your organisation

We look forward to your response.

Yours sincerely,

S K Kakkar
