Workshop on Producing Zero Defect Through Statistical Techniques

Dear Member,

NOMINATIONS INVITED FOR

Workshop on Producing Zero Defect Through Statistical Techniques
(Implementing M S A + S P C on production shop)
25-26 August 2008 Chennai

In line with CII’s theme “Competitiveness of India Inc”, the CII-Institute of Quality is offering a comprehensive workshop with the support of Quality Council of India (QCI) on Producing Zero Defect Through Statistical Techniques (Implementing M.S.A + S.P.C on production shop) on 25-26 August 2008 Chennai. The course will address different statistical methods to be used for evaluating and analyzing the capability of the measurement systems as well as controlling manufacturing process variations to achieve zero defects in mass production environment.

New era began in Indian Industries in practicing quality, particularly since quality movement started in India in 1987. In view of achieving more business success in the open market, the Industries are gearing to adopt Zero Defect Approach.

In the manufacturing industries controlling rejections of an on-going process is really tough tasks for the Process Managers. Applications of Statistical techniques like SPC (Statistical Process Control) are used for controlling the process variations in such industries. Implementations of SPC tools on shop floor help a company to predict rejections well-in advance, and to initiate preventive action to avoid likely rejections, which may occur in future.

However, the effectiveness of SPC tools, are totally dependent on reliability of the measurement data. Automotive Industries Action Group (AIAG) has developed statistical techniques for analysis of measurement process variations, which has been now published as a reference manual MSA (Measurement System Analysis). Performing an analysis of a measurement process through Bias, Linearity, Repeatability & Reproducibility (GRR) helps us to define the capability of a measurement tool and its selection, as well as, to reduce measurement process variations. Stability study is designed for monitoring the performance of the measurement process on long run. Thus applying MSA techniques we can generate the reliable measurement data, which in turn helps the company in achieving better process control and resulting with zero defects, in measurement.

For the manufacturing industries, AIAG has also formulated SPC techniques, which can be used for evaluating capabilities of the manufacturing processes. The process capability indices like Cp, Cpk, Pp; Ppk helps us for defining capabilities of these processes to meet the design specifications. This capability indices are also becomes benchmarks in continual improvement of the process. Control charts are another effective tools in SPC used especially for monitoring performance of on-going process. Control charts also helps the operator to take the preventive measures well in advance and much before a process may likely to produce actual rejection. Thus producing zero defects can be achieved in practice, as the organizational aim.

Programme on Employee Training & Development

Programme on Employee Training & Development – for Organisation Growth
8th July 2008. Venue: CII office, Gurgaon

Employee Training & Organisation – For Organisation Growth

In the context of global competition and modernization there has been a stark realization that any organization’s strategic edge is through its Human Resources and the ability and speed by which their skills and knowledge are upgraded before the competitors. It is said, if marketing gives you business, training keeps you in business. Training is an important organizational function. It has a major impact on the organization’s ability to become and stay competitive. It also is the way that employees develop and grow.

But the question is that, do the benefits of training outweigh the cost of training? Examples of benefits capable of being calculated include: increased productivity; higher sales; improved quality, lower error rates etc. Another method is based on salary. This involves assigning an individual’s salary cost between the various competencies required to perform the whole job. As a rule of thumb “If a training event improves one of ten required competencies from (say) 50% level to 75%, the value added is 25% of one tenth of the salary”.

With this back ground this program on Employee Training & Development – for Organisation Growth is designed to equip participants to:

Ø Enable participants to understand the concepts and principles for developing result based training programs
Ø Understand and develop skills in identifying training needs and designing and implementing Training Programs
Ø Familiarize the participants with tools and techniques for evaluating training efforts.

Marketing to the Bottom of the Pyramid

Marketing to the Bottom of the Pyramid
How relevant and in what measure achievable in the Indian context
August 19-20, 2008 * New Delhi

I am writing to invite you to the Ninth Edition of the Marketing Summit. As you may be aware, each year the CII Marketing Summit has been successfully bringing together an extremely senior audience and authoritative speakers to discuss and argue inspiring and relevant issues associated with the Indian marketing scenario. Through this Summit, we have been providing analysis and in-depth insights into the continuously transforming world of marketing in India. Participants have found greater value from the sharing of experiences with like-minded peers. Equally, the senior level of participation has brought in the added advantage of the possibility of problem-sharing and problem solving – learning from other’s experiences.

Our next edition of the Marketing Summit is a one-and-a-half day initiative titled – Marketing to the Bottom of the Pyramid – How relevant and in what measure achievable in the Indian context?, which is scheduled to be held on August 19 –20, 2008, at Hotel Taj Palace in New Delhi.

This year’s edition takes place at a major turning point. On the one hand, India offers an unparalleled market opportunity, made all the more attractive by the changing nature of its consumer – which is evolving in taste, coming out of his risk-averse shell, looks for new avenues to engage his expanding consuming propensities. On the other, the launch of the Nano represents an undeniable inflection point, which has challenged the market, breaking chords across price scalability, aspirations and resource efficiency. More importantly, it could be the catalysing factor to draw-in new waves of consumers hitherto inaccessible and unapproached in the Indian market. What combinations will work in the changing market-place?
In a format conducive to candid discussion, the 9th Marketing Summit will probe issues most critical to the Indian market and the marketers:

· Chasing the mirage, the great Indian marketplace: the promise and the potential
This session offers insights into the size of the market. Is it for real or are some of your efforts invested in chasing a mirage? Identify the real market and build commensurate strategy.

· Tuning the company: from myths to reality
The multi-layered market is mature. Is your orgnisation’s top management oriented to the changing market dynamics? What role can CMOs play in shaping future strategy? This session will focus on leadership and mind over matter issues to seamlessly integrate your company to your goals

· Nurturing the pyramid to market expectations: To what extent and how?
If the present consumer is brand conscious and has the capacity to buy, what is restraining the consumption basket? Is it a function of microfinance? Will this redeem the market and the marketeer?

· Building a marketable product – the power of the advertisers

· Mapping to succeed: leveraging technology to advantage

Engage with the experts of GIS to know more on how you can access this technology to both track your customer and unlock the veritable Indian goldmine with increasing precision.

· Scaling the market-size: the sachet to Nano experience. And what next?
HLL’s sachet strategy once showed the way to break into this market and now the Tata’s Nano. And are you ready to change, again?

Whilst we will keep you updated on the programme details, You can fill the Registration Form Online by clicking on this Link and send the printout to us along with the Registration fees. Do avail of the early-bird discount offers.

We look forward to your participation and are confident that you will find your time well-spent.

Interactive Session with the Senior Officials of REserve Bank of India.

“Doubling the Credit to MSMEs” – Interactive Session with the Senior Officials of
Reserve Bank of India
1400 hrs : 10th July 2008 :Hotel Taj Mahal Palace & Tower, Apollo Bunder, Colaba, Mumbai.

MSMEs in India constitute more than 80% of total number of industrial enterprises and form the backbone of industrial development in India by it’s remarkable contribution to the Indian economy. However, the availability of timely, adequate & low cost credit is limiting the ability of Indian MSMEs in accessing the new technologies, upgrading the manufacturing facilities, expansion and enhancing of newer markets and maintaining the competitiveness.

While announcing the Policy Package for Stepping up Credit to the SMEs, the Finance Minister, Mr P Chidambaram in the Parliament on August 10th, 2005, had mentioned the objective to double the flow of credit from Rs.67,600 crore in 2004-05 to Rs.135,200 crore to the SME sector by 2009-10, i.e. within a period of 5 years.

It is with this background and more than half way through the five year period, CII proposes to organize an Interactive Session with the senior officials of Reserve Bank of India at 1400 hrs on 10th July 2008 at Hotel Taj Mahal Palace & Tower, Apollo Bunder, Colaba, Mumbai. The discussions at the interaction would review and revolve around the Doubling the Credit to MSMEs. Mr Dinesh Rai, Secretary (MSME), Ministry of MSME, Government of India has also been invited for the interaction.

I am writing to request your participation at the interaction and take the opportunity to highlight the key issues being faced by your organization with the officials of RBI. Please confirm your presence through the reply form attached. Along with the Reply Form, you are also requested to send your issues/ representation on Credit Availability, which you may like to be included in the CII representation for RBI. Please make sure that your confirmation and representation reaches CII before 30 June 2008.
